Recently, the team at Student Credit Cards Center (SCCC) moved from the offline space to online with the launch of their new website which seeks to provide college students with all of the information necessary to make educated decisions about their credit. While the first year of business was spent touring college campuses to educate students about credit, the team quickly realized that it needed a presence online as well, to ensure that students have the proper resources available to them during this transitional time in their lives.

"As we realized the need to create an online presence, we began to research the online tools currently available, to ensure that we weren't reinventing the wheel." Says Jess Trejo, team leader of SCCC's 2009 Student PICK Awards. "Our research led to many of us falling head over heals for various websites and talking them up on campuses," she continues. The Student Credit Cards group quickly developed a reputation for knowing what's in and what's out online. This reputation, combined with a vocalized student need, led to the first annual Student PICK Awards.

With Trejo leading up the new awards team, the Student Credit Cards Center quickly set out to find the top 25 college student websites available today. Over the course of 2008, they surveyed over 200,000 college students covering over 1000 websites. The results showed 100 Student PICK Nominees that make up the best websites for college students in categories like humor, online tools, blogs, student travel, and more. "While our reputation is in the student credit card space, we want to ensure that we are providing our students with the tools they need to fit their new college lifestyles as well. Giving them a list of 25 reputable and trusted websites that can help them beyond what we can do is incredibly important to us," Trejo concludes.

The awards team is contacting the top 100 nominees through the first week of April. From there, they will work with a variety of student-based focus groups to narrow the list to 50 finalists by the end of April. For nominees who want to show off their success, there are various awards badges available on the site ( To cast your vote for a Student PICK Nominee, checkout the Student PICK Voting Tool today!
